Today we will learn about the history of women’s football in Peru.

The championship is organized by the FPF (Peruvian Football Federation) which is part of FIFA. The women’s national football team is also known as the blanquirroja in honor of the national flag which bears the colors red and white.

The year of the first official women’s championship dates back to 1996, when women’s football was previously played experimentally.

There are currently 2 structured alloys:

  • Women’s League: updated with this name only in 2020 where the champion has access to the Conmebol Copa Libertadores. This new league was about to start in March of this year but has remained paralyzed due to Covid to date. In addition, this league has new participation requirements such as accepting only coaches with national A license or higher, having certain sports facilities and having a junior team, among others.

The current champion of this championship is the University Sports Club which at the same time is the team that has won the most titles in women’s football. The players train with their clubs but there is no news from the Federation on the start of activities in Peru for women’s football.

  • Women’s Cup: also updated only this year where the objective of the current regulation is to promote the participation of women in order to achieve the globalization of this sport in Peru. Empower women in society so that they can behave without prejudice in any activity in which they participate. The execution of this competition has the following phases: District, Provincial, Departmental, Regional, National. The champion and runner-up can access the Women’s League as long as they meet the participation requirements.

It should be noted that there is no start date for this Cup. Despite having the rules of the Women’s Cup 2020, there is still no direct communication from the Peruvian Football Association where she talks about her future this year.

It is essential to note that amateur women’s football is also widespread in Peru, which was very important in making women’s football visible in our country. We hope that more companies, players from other countries and organizations will join this fight to find fair football in Peru as well. Gradually, Peruvian women’s football is acquiring more and more relevance both for interpreters and for companies in the sector. The latter try to communicate the importance of pink football through the value of their brand. We consider networking that has allowed us to meet other agents as important: sports managers, coaches, sports psychologists, athletic trainers and communicators from various parts of the world. If we combine our profession with this passion for football, I am sure we will achieve better results for our countries.
